Mum who 'wanted to decide if and when it happened' spent £10,000 to end her life

A woman was left having to spend £10,000 to travel to Switzerland to end her suffering. Now her son has spoken out about the laws around assisted dying.

Glenys Porter took the decision to have an assisted death at Dignitas having spent 10 years battling the advanced stages of Huntington's disease. The condition is a neurological disorder which robs sufferers of their ability to walk, talk or swallow.

Andrew Squires, from Southport, along with his brother Peter, travelled with their mother, who was 67, on that final journey. Assisted dying is legal in Switzerland and Glenys' decision came after she tried to take her life several times, reports the LiverpoolECHO.
