Mum transforms dining room with IKEA mirror hack and bargains from B&M and Dunelm

A mum has transformed her dining room by making her own mirror using an IKEA hack and decorating the space with bargains from high street stores.

Jenna Jessup, 34, a mum of one and school receptionist from Bristol, saw a money-saving IKEA mirror trick on Facebook and decided to give it a go herself.

In total, the dining room transformation cost Jenna £220 thanks to the IKEA mirror hack and using accessories from B&M, Dunelm and Amazon to decorate the space.

As reported by latestdeals.co.uk, Jenna told money-saving Facebook group DIY On A Budget UK: "I came across the IKEA mirror hack idea on Facebook, as well as seeing that celebrity Stacey Solomon had done this very hack, too.

"Firstly, after deciding on the right colour frames for my kitchen diner, I headed to IKEA to purchase the FISKBO frames. I bought 16 21x30cm FISKBO frames at £1.75 each and 16 of the LONSAS mirrors at £1 each.

“I’d advise people to buy an extra mirror or two just in case you break one whilst you are assembling. I also purchased an extra four frames to put my photos in, however these frames do not come with photo mounts, so I bought some A4 card for £1 and made my own to cut costs.

"The other materials required are a spirit level, which is an absolute must have, a measuring tape, a pencil and command strips. Another tip - do not use the cheaper version of command strips as I find they either do not stick, or they damage the paint work.”

Next up was assembling the mirror. Jenna continued: “I measured my wall to ensure the mirrors would be central. I then slotted all the mirrors into the frames once they were all unwrapped and stuck the command strips onto the back of the frames. I stuck them directly to the wall - and that's it! Easy!

“I accessorised my shelves with IKEA plants and glass domes. My second-hand dining table was £50 from Facebook Marketplace and I got the chair covers and table runner from Amazon.

"I spent £28 on IKEA frames and £7 on four more for my pictures. The IKEA mirrors cost £17, the IKEA flowers were £26, the command strips were £10.80 and the IKEA glass domes were £9 each.

“The table cost £50, the table runner was £13.99, the chair covers were £21.99, the table centrepiece was £12 from Dunelm, the single shelf from B&M was £10 and the double shelf from B&M was £15.

“The dog bowls from Pets at Home were £12, the card for the photo mounts were £1, and the artificial ivy around the mirror from Amazon were £19.99.”

In total, the whole dining area cost Jenna £220.77. She said: “I absolutely love it! I might change the plants in the centrepiece as my wonderful husband bought me some beautiful colourful flowers for Valentine's Day and a bit of colour suited the design really well!

"I also love how everything ties in: the shelves and table centrepiece are almost matching, the mirrors and photo frames are the same and I even went and bought cream-coloured tea towels to match with the chairs. If I can do it, anyone can!”
