Winter is a prime time for mould to grow in your home, and finding a way to prevent it is key because it can wreak havoc on our health.
Mould is often caused by condensation, which commonly appears on windows this time of year. If the problem isn't addressed straight away it can easily spread in your home.
Luckily, one cleaning-savvy mum has shared a natural way to get rid of mould, which means you don't have to use harsh chemicals which can be bad for your wallet and health.
TikTok cleaning expert Chantel Mila, shared the clever hack by posting a video to her account @mama_mila_, sharing the exact ingredients you need with her 1 million followers.
The mum-of-two has claimed that by using a homemade formula, it will banish mould and prevent it coming back.
All you need is three ingredients – one cup of white vinegar, 20 drops of clove oil, 20 drops of tea tree oil.
According to the Melbourne-based creator, the acidity in the vinegar will help rid the mould spores, while the clove oil also has anti-fungal properties. Lastly, the tea tree oil will prevent the nasty infestation from coming back.
All you need to do is mix the ingredients together and add to a spray bottle, then spritz on the infested area. Leave it for 20 minutes while it works its magic.
In the video, the cleaning sensation could be seen spraying the home-made solution on her bathroom tiles, before scrubbing on the area with a brush, and then showing off the amazing results.
Taking to the comment section, many of followers were happy to finally find a mould-blasting cleaning hack without having to use bleach.
One person said: "Finally. Someone who's not recommending bleach," while another added "Better than alternatives."
Some of Chantel's followers were gobsmacked by the incredible end result.
One TikTok user said: "Def trying this!," while another commented: "This is so helpful!!!".
Chantel also took to the comment section to answer some questions, such as whether you can use it on other walls outside the bathroom, to which the content creator said: "Yes it should work on those too."
Another TikToker was wondering if you can use something else instead of clove oil, which has traditionally been used to ease digestive issues and pain. Chantel replied: "Tea tree oil and peppermint oil are also antifungals."
Keep in mind that if you have mould or damp, it's important to find out why you have excess moisture in your home.
If you want to prevent it returning, you have to take steps to limit the moisture in the air. You may be able to remove the mould yourself, but for larger or more tough areas you may have to use bleach, or get a professional to help you.
