Most householders have been thinking about how to pay their energy bills, whether to get a fixed rate agreement with their supplier or take their chances with the variable rate. But even the savviest of deals is unlikely to protect customers from rising energy costs due to start next month.
So a change in behaviour will be required for anyone looking to keep their gas and electricity bills relatively manageable as we head into the colder months. One person who's been really thinking about how to achieve this is mum-of-three, Maxine Watts, who made a list of smart energy-saving tips and shared them on Facebook.
Speaking to CheshireLive, she said: "The amount it’s going up is ridiculous. I don’t know what the government is going to do, but I do know they won’t pay all of the bill, and what I’m left with will still be significantly more than what it normally is."
