Amid the current cost of living crisis, we're always searching for more efficient ways to keep down the costs of everyday life - from energy bills to meals for dinner. Tackling the current soaring costs of living, Asda 's new Essential range provides shoppers with inexpensive meals in yellow and recognisable branded packaging.
Savvy mum Leah Rubidge took to viral Facebook Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group to share a handy low-cost meal, which she made for her daughter, totalling to costs of just £2.23, saving herself a fortune. To turn away from takeaway, the mum opted for a modern twist on a "fake-away", which was undeniably a success.
Posting to the popular group, she shared photos of her daughter's meal for tea, which consisted of a cheese and tomato pizza, mozzarella dippers, and garlic bread.
The mum-of-one admitted that the meal was a complete "success", costing just a fraction of what she would lay out on a takeaway, and even left her child "never wanting" to order a meal out again.
Beside her post, Leah wrote: "Another Asda yellow label success! To replace takeaways for my family I decided to try a fake-away.
"Instead of spending £20, plus on an ordered meal I spent £2.23. Instead of waiting 30 mins plus for delivery it took 12 minutes to cook," she added.
"Reviews from fussy child - 'I don’t ever want to order again, can we have this every night?'
"Really glad I tried it and a big money saver!" The mum gushed.
Adding to the original post, the mum clarified that it was not a normal-sized dinner plate, but simply a large pizza, consisting of six slices.
Since sharing, the original post has rocketed in responses, having surpassed 3,200 interactions from fellow Facebook users.
Supportive parents took to the comments, praising Leah for sharing the inexpensive meal, which is a much more ideal option than laying out a small fortune on costly takeaways.
One mum gushed: "Amazing my kids also love these pizzas which is win win for me saves some much needed pennies xx."
"That's insanely great! With the energy crisis happening I've really been struggling food wise as a single person household. This would easily do me one or two meals, thanks!" A second gushed.
Unfortunately, the post received responses from judgmental parents, who slammed the inexpensive, saying: "Yet again making absolutely rubbish unhealthy food cheap & affordable."
Rushing to Leah's defence, a woman wrote: "What a very sad world we live in...so many judgemental people. There's nothing wrong with this food every now and again. I personally don't mind these frozen pizza.
"Sheesh so many judgemental people , if your cupboards are full and you're eating then that's all that matters," another added.
