A mum was horrified when her children opened an Easter egg bought from Sainsbury's only to find it was covered in green and grey mould.
Louis McGregor said her daughters, seven and three-years-old, were 'grossed out' and 'disappointed'.
She complained to the major supermarket, where she bought a pair of 'The Yolkers' white chocolate Easter eggs for £3.60 each.
The 42-year-old purchased them two weeks before Easter, so she had them in time for a big Easter egg hunt.
The mum-of-two from Gloucestershire travelled to a further away store in Cheltenham in order to get her hands on them ahead of the Bank Holiday celebrations, reports Gloucestershire Live.
She described her young daughters' shock at opening up the box expecting a tasty treat only to be greeted with mouldy chocolate.
Mrs McGregor said: "I bought them two weeks ago from the Cheltenham store. They didn’t have them in store in my local Barnwood store, so travelled to get them.
"Opened this morning (April 18) after the Easter egg hunt, and my daughter found this! I bought two for my daughters - Hattie, 7, and Flossie, 3.
"They were so disappointed! And grossed out!"
She continued: "I contacted Sainsbury's straight away and they said they would send me a gift card for £10.
"They said they’d only refund the one that was mouldy... I said ‘do you expect my daughters to eat the other one?’ They said they understood my disappointment - but I'm pretty sure they didn’t."
Mrs McGregor explained that the gift card is for £10, £3.50 refund and £6.50 goodwill gesture. She said she thought the gesture was "a joke" from "such a large reputable company".
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Cases like this are extremely rare and we have apologised to Ms McGregor for her experience. We have offered her a £10 gift card in the form of a refund and gesture of goodwill for her items.”
