It should have been one of the happiest days of her life but when Fauzia Ashraf gave birth to her third son her mind was fixed on another ward in a different hospital. For all she could think of was her precious older boy who lay dying on a cancer ward and feeling "terrified" he would die alone.
"As I gave birth to my baby, my biggest fear was having to leave my five-year-old son on the children's cancer ward and him dying without his mummy by his side,” she said. "I was not in that room present for the new life I was bringing into the world.
"Instead of being excited about meeting my baby, all I could see was Saqib’s beautiful face as I prayed he wouldn’t die while I was in labour. With each contraction, I prayed that Saqib would live to see his brother and his pain would be eased.”
