A lone woman was seen approaching children in a Merseyside park and 'offering them sweets'.

The woman, was reportedly seen sitting on a bench and even calling children by their own names - to the disbelief of watching parents. A mum who's child was approached, in Henley Park, Whiston has shared her concerns with the ECHO.

She said: "I had taken my four-year-old daughter to the park as I do all the time, and I was stood talking to another child's dad and all of a sudden we hear both of all our children's names being shouted. We were both a bit gobsmacked, we turned around and saw this woman approaching our children and she had passed my daughter something into her hand- which I found out was a sweet

"I then approached the woman and asked her how she knows my daughter's name and what she wanted - and she responded asking if the children wanted to play hide and seek in the bushes. I pulled my daughter away."

The woman then reportedly left the park to sit at a bus stop across the road before walking away some time after. Merseyside Police were informed.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We were contacted at 11.20am yesterday, April 19 by a member of the public reporting a female speaking to children at Henley Memorial park. The woman left the park prior to police being contacted. Local policing officers have been made aware."
