Mum run over and killed in hospital car park on first visit to see baby granddaughter

A mum has died after being run over in a hospital car park on her first visit to her newborn granddaughter.

Mary Owen-Jones, 52, died two days after being struck by a car on the hospital visit on the day her daughter, Jasmine, gave birth.

Her heartbroken family said Mary had a "passion for life and her family" - and was looking forward to 2023 with her new granddaughter April Rose who was born on New Year's Day.

Mary, of Rhos on Sea, North Wales, died on Tuesday (January 3) two days after suffering injuries on the hospital visit.

The hairdresser was walking between two car parks near the main entrance at the Glan Clwyd hospital in Bodelwyddan when she was in collision with a car.

In a moving tribute, her devastated family said: "Mary is survived by her son and daughter, Andrew and Jasmine, her granddaughter, April Rose and her husband, Arwel.

“She had a passion for life and her family and was particularly looking forward to being a grandma to her newly born granddaughter, April Rose.

"She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. We are absolutely heartbroken and would ask to be given the appropriate privacy to allow us time to grieve."

Daughter Jasmine had posted on social media how the family were looking forward to welcoming baby April Rose and uploaded pictures of her scans.

Mary’s family are being supported by specialist police officers. She was a well-known mobile hairdresser in the seaside town and also worked as a teaching assistant.

The family thanked people have "reached out to them during their difficult time."

North Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision that happened at around 8.40pm on the hospital grounds between two car parks, near to the main entrance of the hospital.
