A mum who nudged Insulate Britain protestors with her Range Rover as they blocked the road while she was on the school run has admitted she regrets her actions after being banned from driving.
Sherrilyn Speid, from Grays, Essex, pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to dangerous driving over the incident last October.
The 35-year-old, who appeared for sentencing at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Friday, was disqualified from driving for a year, handed a community order and ordered to pay a total of £240.
Sherrilyn appeared on Monday’s instalment of This Morning to speak with Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes, who is sitting in for Holly Willoughby.
The mum-of-one was filmed shouting at the protestors and then sitting behind the wheel of her black Range Rover Sport in footage that quickly went viral online.
Appearing on the programme alongside Insulate Britain spokesperson Tracey Mallaghan, Sherrilyn said the driving ban is “going to impact my life a lot”.
She said: “My son plays football - I can’t take him to football, I can’t visit my mum as often as I’d like to - she’s got MS - she does need me to be there quite often.
“I’m not able to live my normal life, but I’m not going to let it get me down. There’s a lot of positives from this as well, so I’m focusing on that rather than the negatives.”
Phillip asked if she regretted nudging the two people and Sherrilyn said: “Yeah of course, of course I do,” adding that she wished she had not done it.
Phillip asked what the positives were from that day and Sherrilyn said: “I’ve been able to be a voice for a lot of women that have suffered domestic abuse. I know a lot of people will know about my story now it’s in the press. I’m now supporting so many people.”
She added: “I’ve set up a WhatsApp domestic abuse support group, I’m an ambassador for a university, I’m supporting so many people and I’m able to continue my work and do a lot of it from home as well.”
Reflecting on the day, Sherrilyn explained that she was suffering from anxiety at the time, adding: “It’s come out now so I don’t feel embarrassed to talk about it.
“I was in a domestic abuse relationship for 12 years. You don’t walk out of that normal. I was really struggling, so much that I referred myself to therapy. I was doing mindfulness classes at work.”
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
