A thrifty mum has revealed the budget dinner she makes for her children, and it couldn't be any simpler to put together on a busy weeknight. Savvy mum Jamie Rose shared the "lazy dinner" in question in a recent TikTok video, which costs just 84p per person to make.
The bargain meal is made up of fish fingers (25p per portion), curly fries (36p per portion), garden peas (4p per portion), and sweetcorn (10p per portion).
As Jamie explained in the caption: "Some days my kids eat fish fingers and chips, other days they eat bean casserole - it's all about balance".
In the video, Jamie, who goes by the apt username @savvyjamie, revealed the four ingredients she uses for her no effort needed dinner, opting for all affordable brands.
Jamie, who regularly shares budget tips with followers, opted for Hearty Food Co fish fingers, for 75p a box, Tesco's own curly fries, for £2.20 a bag, a 27p tin of Stockwell baked beans, and a 55p bag of Grower's Harvest garden peas.
In the video, the meal is described as a "lazy parent's dinner for kids that costs just 84p per portion", and many were pleased to see a more realistic family dinnertime depicted, as opposed to the impossible standards parents are often faced with on social media.
One appreciative person commented: "Nothing wrong with a fish finger dinner. I love a fish finger sandwich."
Another wrote: "My little one loves fish fingers. Always a winner in our house!"
A third person approved: "As an apparent grown-up, I love fish fingers and sweetcorn or beans. Nowt wrong with that plate."
The inclusion of sweetcorn did prove to be somewhat divisive, however, with a fourth person remarking that it would have been a "banging" meal without it.
