Mum of two and 'caring' teacher Lynne Freeman to be laid to rest after drowning in Co Wicklow

Tributes have poured in for a 'caring and supportive' mum of two who drowned after getting into difficulty while swimming in Co Wicklow on Saturday.

Lynne Freeman, who was a school teacher at Ravenswell Primary School, sadly passed away at North Beach, Greystones, at around 12.30pm.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of three women aged in their 50s in trouble in the water.

Lynne was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A second woman was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital, where she is being treated for her injuries, and a third woman was treated at the scene.

A Funeral and Thanksgiving Service for the life of Lynne will take place on Thursday at 11am in Christ Church, followed by burial in Redford Cemetery, The Grove.

A funeral notice on RIP.ie reads: "Lynne Freeman, Windgates, Greystones, Co. Wicklow, formerly of Delgany National School and Ravenswell Primary School, Bray, Co. Wicklow, April 23rd, 2022, tragically.

"Daughter of the recently deceased Margaret Freeman. Remembered with love by her family Julian, Sophie and James, her dad Eric, brother Andrew, godchildren, extended family including the Freeman and McCormick families, wide circle of friends and colleagues.

"Funeral and Thanksgiving Service for the life of Lynne at 11am on Thursday, April 28th, in Christ Church, Delgany, followed by burial in Redford Cemetery, The Grove. The service may be viewed online at churchservices.tv/delgany

"No flowers by request. Donations in lieu, if desired, to a charity of your choice in memory of Lynne."

Many people have offered their condolences to Lynne's family online as they remembered the "beautiful and cheerful" woman.

One person wrote: "Lynne was such a caring and supportive teacher, and had a warm and engaging nature. She will be missed. Sincere condolences to her family, and in particular, her Delgany National School friends and former colleagues."

"We send deepfelt sympathy to Lynne's family. Lynne was a beautiful cheerful lady and was a great support at Delgany NS. RIP Dear Lynne," said a second.

A third commented: "I am heartbroken for Lynne and her family and friends. She was such a beautiful person and such a valued and loved member of our Pilates community we will miss her so much. Rest in Peace Lynne".

While a fourth said: "Sincere condolences to her family. A gifted teacher, generous with her time, warm and engaging with a captivating smile. Always remembered with love and affection. Such a tragic loss. RIP beautiful Lynne."
