Mum-of-three has both arms amputated and part of colon removed after horror dog attack

A woman has had both her arms amputated after she was viciously mauled by dogs.

Kyleen Waltman was attack by three hounds outside a home Honea Path, South Carolina.

Her family said she was walking from a friend’s home to her mother’s house when the attack happened, with Kyleen needing to be airlifted to hospital for urgent medical care.

Doctors had to amputate both of her arms and remove her colon following the attack, Fox Carolina reports.

It is feared that Kyleen may lose part of her oesophagus in the aftermath of the mauling.

Kyleen’s sister, Shenna Green, told the media outlet: “When she wakes up, she’s going to wake up without arms, no way to eat. Just by dogs.”

A passerby was able to scare the dogs away by firing a gunshot into the air, Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office said.

Shenna added. “If it wasn’t for him, my sister wouldn’t be here.”

She said that her sister was so badly mauled, it was difficult to identify her.

Kyleen’s sister said she is a mother of three, recently became a grandmother and is outgoing and outspoken.

Shenna said the fact that she won't be able to hold her grandchild is "devastating".

More than $26,000 (£20,000) has been donated to a fundraiser set up by the family to help Kyleen in her recovery.

Today Shenna wrote on it: "I just want to take a moment and thank everyone for all the prayers and donations.

"Like I said before there is no obligation I know times are tough, prayers is what we really need.

"That said. Kyleen is still in critical condition but is stable.

"She still isn’t out of the woods just yet, she will need more surgeries on her body, the dogs attacked her whole being.

"Initially, we thought just arms but as time goes on, the bites are everywhere.

"Please continue to pray and I will give more updates as we are updated on her condition. Thank you and love everyone."

The dogs have been seized by Abbeville County Animal Control and an investigation into the attack is ongoing.

Amy Wynne, Kyleen’s other sister, told WYFF News: “This is the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen.

"Her whole demeanour, everything about her has changed.

“She’s woken up, which is good. She’s actually woken up, but it’s not her.”

Kyleen’s friend, Tanya Gilmer, has called for someone to be held accountable for the attack, saying she wants "justice very much".
