Mum mortified after accidentally ordering eight joints of meat in online Christmas order

A mum was left mortified after she made a huge mistake in her online Christmas dinner shop leaving her with countless food items and a 'horrendous' cost. The indecisive woman received a nasty surprise when she realised that everything in her online basket she had added during her Tesco order had accidentally already been ordered, the Mirror reports.

She explained that she had picked out everything that she liked the look of for her intimate Christmas dinner with her husband including eight separate joints of meat, a selection of cheese boards, trifles, yule logs and party food. Her plan was to have her partner help her make a joint decision on what to buy, however, when he went to make the final selection he discovered everything in the basket had already been ordered.

The woman confessed she felt like an 'idiot' as she took to MumsNet to share her very expensive error. She explained: "Oh no I've over spent massively I feel such an idiot.

"A few weeks ago with our Tesco order we got the pre-order food catalogue. It looked yummy and so I picked out what I liked the look of and put it in my basket for the Christmas delivery. I have been asking my other half to go through it and make the choice, which trifle.

"Which cake. Which meat etc for a few days and now he's finished work he sat down to do it last night.

“Only to find out it can't be changed as it has already been ordered. The cost is horrendous but the waste is awful."

To make matters worse, the couple have no guests for Christmas Day this year so the food is unlikely to get used up after they left themselves with enough to feed half their street.

The MumsNet user admitted she 'felt ill' when she realised the blunder but that her husband was very 'calm about it' as she asked other users: ''Please tell I'm not the only one?"

Other users were quick to advise the woman to donate her excess food to a charity or food bank if they could afford to. One user suggested: "Donate what you can at least it won't go to waste and you'll feel better for making someone else's Christmas a little less hard."

Another advised that the couple could just pack their freezer full of Christmas dinner food and said 'start eating the contents of your freezer to make space!'

Another person said that the Tesco customer should take it up with the supermarket. They wrote: 'Can you call Tesco and explain? I've found their customer service to be excellent.'
