A child abuser who had her 15-year-old victim’s baby hid him from social services, lied about being sexually assaulted and even fled from court in a series of botched attempts to evade justice.
Sarah Campbell subjected the boy to months of abuse during 2015 and 2016 but was jailed at Liverpool Crown Court earlier this week. The court heard Campbell offered the boy drugs so they could “get off their barnets” and that she had sex with him on a golf course.
During her sentencing hearing on Wednesday, Liverpool Crown Court heard that while she was abusing the boy Campbell took steps to make sure that it would remain secret.

Martine Snowdon, prosecuting, said social services were already in touch with Campbell’s household but the boy’s evidence, as well as messages recovered by police, showed Campbell took steps to ensure they didn’t find out. Ms Snowdon said: “She would sneak him in her house by getting him to come through her back garden early in the morning to avoid social services or have him hide under the bed.”
The suspicions of the authorities were raised further when Campbell became pregnant and then gave birth to the boy’s baby. In a vile move, she then tried to avoid questions over her own abuse of the boy by falsely claiming he had raped her.
He was taken into a police station for questioning but after hearing his interview and after seeing inconsistencies in Campbell’s account, officers dropped that investigation. Probes into Campbell’s own behaviour then continued to ramp up until she was charged last year.
Even after that, Campbell made one last attempt to evade justice. After the start of her trial she breached her bail by fleeing. The jury found her guilty in her absence and she was later arrested on a warrant and held in prison.
She wept in court as a judge sentenced her to nine and a half years in prison.
