Mum lets son, 12, do family's big £50 Asda shop and what he buys is very impressive

A mum was left surprised after letting her 12-year-old go and do the weekly food shop.

Kelly Miller Richards had allowed her son Vinnie, a budding chef, to choose what they would eat for the week.

She gave Vinnie a £50 budget and sent him to Asda with the challenge of purchasing ingredients to feed the family for five nights, the Liverpool ECHO reports.

Kelly was left amazed at what he returned with, which even included a fair bit of change from his budget.

The mum posted her challenge into a Facebook for families which are trying to budget more.

She said: "So I gave my son Vinnie a challenge, I told him to do a shop and make five meals out of £50 for five of us... and he has pulled it off on only £36.14. (He gets to keep the change).

"He added fruit, water and milk in as well. He also cooked his first meal tonight was lovely.

"The meals are spag bol with crusty bread, chicken korma with rice, a cooked breakfast, crispy chicken wraps with salad and chips, and a spaghetti carbonara.

"He wants to be a chef when he's older, I am so proud of him twelve years old and doing this". [sic]
