A mum was left furious after a letter told her that her four-year-old daughter was overweight following a weight check at her school. Lauren Ormesher is campaigning against body mass index (BMI) weight checks of children after receiving the hurtful letter about her daughter Maggie.
BMI is a measure of person's height and weight to work out whether they are healthy, according to the NHS. Health bosses in Lancashire have said that the weight checks are just one of the services they provide to ensure young people remain healthy and have encouraged any parent who is concerned to contact their school.
The letter about Maggie, who goes to Cobbs Brow Primary School and attends dance classes every week, has resulted in Ms Ormesher in taking to social media, where should found that similar letters had been sent to parents across the UK. She told LancsLive : "I was quite shocked as she’s a very healthy child and to see the word 'overweight' seemed crazy.
