Mum in hysterics at son's Christening banner after shop 'took request literally'

A mum couldn't stop laughing after receiving a banner for her son's christening - and realised that the shop her taken her wording request a bit too literally. Denise Smith had ordered the sign for her son Raymond's baptism celebration and told staff at the printing store: "I just want 'On your Christening day' printed on a banner, please."

However, the 30-year-old was left in stitches when she unwrapped the poster to find the the words "I just want On Your Christening Day" printed in huge lettering at the top. The shop had failed to leave out the first three words of her request and printed them alongside the simple message she had intended.

The situation was even more hilarious given that the mum-of-two had bought the banner from a business owned by her brother - who was Raymond's godfather. Instead of replacing the sign, Denise saw the funny side of the blunder and decided to hang the banner to give everyone a giggle on the big day.

The addiction support worker from County Cavan, Ireland said : "When I opened the banner, my brother's wife just shrieked 'Oh my God.' My brother was so embarrassed - he was meant to be godfather.

"I just laughed, gasped and thought 'Oh My God'. I just thought it was so funny - how can you mess it up that badly?"

Denise had ordered the banner inside the store and had also emailed and texted her requests. But despite all the efforts, it seems the text was still confusing enough for the massive error to be made - and not picked up on.

The mum still decided to use the funny banner with pride at the Christening event . She said: "Raymond's dad, Connor, just said it was quality and laughed. All of my family and friends were just in stitches - they thought it was so funny.

"Even when I tell people now they don't believe it happened."

Denise said that the mixed up banner made Raymond's Christening even more memorable.
