Mum stuck in Tesco car park for 90 minutes due to Man Utd game loses parking ticket appeal

A 21-year-old mum who was trapped in Tesco car park for one-and-a-half hours with her two young sons has had her appeal against a £70 parking ticket rejected.

Ellie Brierley and the boys - aged 20 months and nine months - were stuck in the car during heatwave conditions and without air conditioning because nearby traffic for a Manchester United football game caused a gridlock situation that meant it took 90 minutes to get out of the car park, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

The temperature in the car soared to 32 degrees and, after finally escaping that ordeal, Ellie then received the Horizon Parking penalty notice a few days later, but her subsequent appeal has been refused. Ellie's shopping visit to Tesco lasted just over an hour, which would have been well within the two-hour time limit allowed on match days if it had not taken so long to get out of the car park.
