Mum 'gutted' as ruthless scammer sends laughing face after she paid £120 for LFC tickets

A mum said she was "gutted" after being scammed into buying fake Liverpool FC tickets for he son's birthday.

Carley Johnson, from Cheshire, said she was desperate to surprise her son Tyler with tickets to his beloved football club. The 32-year-old said her son watches every game on TV but has never been to a match.

Wanting to surprise her son with the experience of a lifetime she went on the hunt and found one man selling tickets for £60 on Facebook marketplace.

However after paying, the scammer suddenly stopped replying to Carley.

Carley told the Liverpool Echo : "They were for sale on a Facebook group and he said he could not go. I was even given confirmation of the sale with his name and address so I thought it was legit. He kept asking for me to send confirmation that I had sent the money and started thinking it was weird.

"He then said I needed to send him another £25 to change the name on the ticket, so I just asked for the money back. I kept asking for the money back and then he sent me a picture of a man laughing. He is still posting on the site that tickets are for sale."

The tickets were for Liverpool's clash with top-of-the-league Arsenal on April 9. Carly planned to not tell Tyler she had managed to get tickets and then drive him down to the ground to surprise him.

She said: "I'm upset and as a single parent and £120 is a lot of money, I have rang the bank but there is not really a lot they can do. I'm gutted as I knew how excited he would be and he had asked for tickets.

"I had to explain we could not go, I'm trying to get some more so hopefully we can go in the future. I think the scammer enjoyed what he was doing especially after he sent me the photo of a man laughing.

"I feel like I have let my son down, that is what he really wanted for his birthday, and then I got scammed. I don't know how they sleep at night."
