Mum gets £70 parking fine after becoming trapped trying to leave Tesco

A mum was landed with a £70 fine after spending an hour-and-a-half trying to leave a Tesco car park on a busy match day. Ellie Brierley, 21, was with her two boys, aged 20 months and nine months, when trying to leave the facility on a baking hot day which saw temperatures inside her car reach 32C.

Ellie was stuck at Tesco's Stretford branch on Sunday, August 7, on the same day that the Manchester United against Brighton game was taking place at Old Trafford. After finally exiting the car park and making it home, Ellie says she received a car parking fine from Horizon Parking a few days later of £70, which is reduced to £30 if she paid it in 14 days, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Ellie, who says she was shopping for just over an hour in Tesco, says: "I had to unpack my shopping in the car and give my boys bits of food and some yoghurt to cool them down. I was sat in standstill traffic on the car park for one hour and twenty five minutes.
