A mum was made to ‘feel like an idiot’ after a major blunder in her Tesco order right before a cash-strapped Christmas.
One Brit ended up with a nasty surprise when she was doing her food shopping for Christmas Day.
Like many, the woman had wanted to get what she’d need for the big day in advance and began working on a Tesco order.
She added ‘everything’ that she fancied the look of to her online basket, from trifles, to cheeseboards, yule logs and cakes, party food and more, BirminghamLive reported.
Her and her husband’s plan had been to add far more food than they needed to their basket before making a final selection of what they wanted, deleting items before ordering.
However they were mortified when they ended up ordering way more food than they needed.
The mum shared her horrifying experience in a post on Mum’s Net.
She wrote: "Oh no I've over spent massively I feel such an idiot. A few weeks ago with our Tesco order we got the preorder food catalogue. It looked yummy and so I picked out what I liked the look of and put it in my basket for the Christmas delivery.
"I have been asking my other half to go through it and make the choice, which trifle. Which cake. Which meat etc for a few days and now he's finished work he sat down to do it last night.
“Only to find out it can't be changed as it has already been ordered. The cost is horrendous but the waste is awful."
The mum was especially shocked as her and her husband have no guests for Christmas Day.
But instead of having food for two, they have countless cheeseboards, party food, trifles, cakes and eight separate joints of meat.
She added that she had meant for her husband to go through the basket and "choose one of each."
The Mum's Net user said she "felt ill" when her husband revealed the mistake, but that he was "calm about it". She asked Mum's net users "Please tell me I'm not the only one?"
Others on the forum encouraged the mum to donate the excess to a charity or food bank if they could afford to do so.
They wrote: "Donate what you can at least it won't go to waste and you'll feel better for making someone else's Christmas a little less hard."
Another suggested that the couple pack their freezer full of the Christmas food. They advised them to "start eating the contents of your freezer to make space!"
Others said that the customer should take it up with Tesco. One wrote: "Can you call Tesco and explain? I've found their customer service to be excellent.”
