Mum 'feels like an idiot' after making colossal Tesco order blunder on Christmas food shop

A mum says she "felt like an idiot" after making a massive Tesco order blunder on her Christmas food shop.

Like many households across Ireland, she planned to buy what she needed for the festivities in advance so began working on a Tesco delivery order.

She added "everything" that she fancied to her online basket - from trifles to cakes, cheeseboards, party food, joints of meat and much more, Birmingham Live reports.

The plan was to go through the selection with her husband, choose one of each item and delete what wasn't needed before placing the order.

But she ended up with a very nasty surprise after discovering she had accidently ordered everything and it was too late to change it.

Taking to the Mum's Net forum, she wrote: "Oh no I've over spent massively I feel such an idiot. A few weeks ago with our Tesco order we got the preorder food catalogue. It looked yummy and so I picked out what I liked the look of and put it in my basket for the Christmas delivery.

"I have been asking my other half to go through it and make the choice, which trifle. Which cake. Which meat etc for a few days and now he's finished work he sat down to do it last night. Only to find out it can't be changed as it has already been ordered. The cost is horrendous but the waste is awful."

The poster added that she'd only intended to buy food for the two of them as they have no guests on Christmas Day. Instead she had selected a mass of goodies, including several trifles and many cakes.

Also coming their way before Christmas in the order are cheeseboards, party food, and eight joints of meat.

She said she "felt ill" when her husband revealed the mistake, but that he was "calm about it". She asked Mum's net users "Please tell me I'm not the only one?"

Others on the forum encouraged the mum to donate the excess to a charity or food bank if they could afford to do so.

They wrote: "Donate what you can at least it won't go to waste and you'll feel better for making someone else's Christmas a little less hard."

Another suggested that the couple pack their freezer full of the Christmas food. They advised them to "start eating the contents of your freezer to make space!"

Others said that the customer should take it up with Tesco. One wrote: "Can you call Tesco and explain? I've found their customer service to be excellent."
