Mum, 26, who was suffering from severe pregnancy illness died while 28-weeks pregnant with baby daughter

A young mum tragically died while 28 weeks pregnant with her daughter.

Jessica Cronshaw, from Blackburn, died in December as she battled an extreme form of sickness known as hyperemesis gravidarum. The 26-year-old had been suffering from severe pregnancy sickness ever since she found out she was pregnant with her daughter Elsie.

A pre-inquest review was held on Thursday (March 9) which heard that Jessica's family are being supported by an expert. The hearing, held at Preston Coroner's Court, heard that both the GP surgery where Jessica was registered and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages locations in Blackburn and Burnley, are due to provide evidence at a final inquest in July of this year, Lancashire Live reports.

The death of Jessica and Elsie has been described by assistant coroner Kate Bisset as "absolutely tragic". She asked the family at the hearing who they were coping, to which they replied: "As well as we can." Investigations into the death are expected to be completed by early July.

Concluding today's hearing the coroner said to Jessica and Elsie's family: "I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through as a family. I am so very sorry for your losses."

After Jessica and Elsie died friends and family raised more than £17,000 for Pregnancy Sickness Support via JustGiving. Steffi Scott-Miller, who set up the fundraiser, wrote: "We are raising money and funds for the UK5's only registered charity Pregnancy Sickness Support who support women who are suffering from the debilitating condition Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG).

"They provide amazing and vital support to the approximate 3% of women who are affected by HG and are often a lifeline for sufferers. HG significantly impairs the ability of those suffering to complete basic care needs as well as everyday activities, we would recommend you to watch [https://youtu.be/vj2RI9GhD9o] to help you understand the impact of HG.

"We need more awareness, knowledge & specialist counselling support systems for every HG sufferer. In 2022 Pregnancy Sickness Support launched the partner and carer service as well as launching the much needed counselling service to help people overcome the mental health implications of HG. None of this work would be possible without the kindness and generosity of their volunteers and supporters, and we need your support now more so than ever.

"No donation is too small to make, all contributions are very gratefully received by the charity. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the Pregnancy Sickness Support. It’s time to do our Jess & Elsie proud."
