A 26-year-old mum and her 10-month-old baby have died in a horror crash when the car driven by her sister swerved off the road.
The vehicle cartwheeled several times before ending up on its roof in a large hedge, witnesses said.
The accident happened around 4.50pm on Monday on National Route No. 157, near the city of Recreo, in the north-western Argentinian province of Catamarca, near the border with Chile.
Sofia Galindez Martinez, 30, was driving the car with her sister Consuelo Galindez Martinez and Consuelo's 10-month-old baby, Alba, according to Catamarca Police.
The sisters and the baby were urgently transferred to Dr Liborio Forte Zonal Hospital, where Consuelo and her young daughter Alba died from their injuries, while Sofia is hospitalised recovering.
A third sister, Delfina, reportedly wrote a post on Instagram saying: “My angels, I carry you in my heart, my sister, my Albita. You came to teach us that nothing really matters, but everything is valued immensely. I love you."
Hours earlier, the sisters had shared images with a cousin over the weekend on their social networks.
The mum, who was from San Miguel de Tucuman, the capital of Argentina's north-western Tucuman province, was a speech therapist.
After the news of the death, the College of Speech Therapists of Tucumán published a message: "The Board of Directors expresses its deepest condolences to relatives and close friends of Consuelo Galindez Martinez."
The accident is currently under investigation but local media has reported that Sofia lost control of the grey Fiat Punto, which then came off the road and rolled over several times before coming to a stop upside down in dense foliage.
In the local rugby club also expressed their regret as the baby's father works there.
They wrote: “Los Tarcos Rugby Club accompanies the family of Pablo Galíndez, children's coordinator of Tucumán Rugby, on the death of his daughter and granddaughter. We raise our prayers for his eternal rest."
The police investigation into the tragic accident is ongoing.
Three weeks ago, former Barcelona winger and Argentine under-20 international Maxi Rolon and his twin brother, Ariel, died in a car crash in Argentina.
The pair were driving the same car as the two sisters, a Fiat Punto, on the main road between the towns of Pujato and Casilda in the Argentinian province of Santa Fe.
Barcelona FC said in a tweet once they heard the news of the tragedy involving its ex 28-year-old player: “We are dismayed by the death of Maxi Rolon, a Barcelona youth football player from 2010 to 2016.
"We express our deepest condolences and send full support to his family. Rest in peace.”
