On Wednesday night, a series of tornadoes wreaked havoc in St. Lucie County, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. According to St. Lucie County Sheriff Keith Pearson, the tornadoes caused extensive damage to buildings, homes, and critical county emergency response equipment.
Sheriff Pearson reported that the storm resulted in 'well over 100 homes' being damaged, with many homes being completely destroyed. The tornadoes, estimated to be at least six in number, tore through the county in a northern direction, leaving a path of devastation in their wake.
One particularly hard-hit area was a retirement community in St. Lucie, where mostly modular homes were severely damaged. Sheriff Pearson described the scene as trailers being lifted off their foundations, highlighting the destructive force of the tornadoes.
Additionally, one of the tornadoes struck a St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office structure that housed the agency's emergency equipment. The 10,000 square foot red iron structure, which was crucial for emergency response operations, was completely destroyed by the tornado.
The impact of the tornadoes has been significant, with numerous homes and structures suffering extensive damage. The community is now faced with the daunting task of recovery and rebuilding in the aftermath of this natural disaster.
