Things got a bit heated during an XFL Sunday matchup between the Battlehawks and the Defenders. Late into the fourth quarter of the Week 3 tilt, a massive fight broke out on the field, during which players from both sides could be seen shoving one another to the ground.
At one point amid the fracas, a St. Louis player appeared to throw the helmet of a D.C. player, covering quite a good bit of distance with the heave.
As a result of the brawl, three players were ejected from the game. The Defenders saw linebacker Francis Bernard and offensive lineman Rod Taylor head for an early shower, while the Battlehawks played the rest of the game without running back Brian Hill.
Right after the fight began to dissipate, various D.C. players could be seen running toward the crowd in celebration, knowing they'd just secured the victory despite the wild scenes that’d just occurred.
The Defenders ended up winning the game, 34–28, improving to 3–0 on the season while handing A.J. McCarron and the Battlehawks their first loss of the year.
Between beer snakes, lemon barrages, and some pretty wild brawls, the XFL is proving to be highly entertaining on a weekly basis.
If the Battlehawks and Defenders are holding any grudges over the way this game ended, they won't have to wait long to air their grievances. St. Louis and D.C. are set to square off again in Week 5, in what should be another tense battle between two sides that seemingly have little love for one another.
