SEVERAL headstones were damaged after a car crashed into Port Glasgow Cemetery yesterday.
Police were called to Heggies Avenue at around 5pm on Tuesday, with a section of the street being blocked off for a short period.
Images show a black Audi Q3, which appears to have left the road and crashed through a hedge before colliding with headstones.
A number of headstones were damaged as a result of the collision.
The vehicle, which remains at the scene, is wrapped in police tape, along with the gap in the hedge which lines the cemetery.
A spokesperson for Inverclyde Council said: “We can confirm that a vehicle crashed into Port Glasgow Cemetery last night and we are currently assessing the extent of the damage.”
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
