Tragedy struck at a luxury hotel in central Bangkok as six people, including two Vietnamese Americans, were discovered dead inside a hotel room. Thai police are investigating the possibility of poisoning as the cause of death.
The bodies were found by hotel staff in a fifth-floor room at the Grand Hyatt hotel after the guests missed their check-out time by more than 24 hours. Authorities ruled out robbery as a motive, as there were no signs of physical violence on the bodies. Additionally, police believe that the deceased did not harm themselves.
Police found cups containing a white powder and untouched food in the room, raising suspicions of poisoning. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities searching for a seventh person who was part of the hotel booking and is now considered a possible suspect.
Four of the deceased individuals were Vietnamese nationals. Police revealed that one member of the group appeared to have attempted to reach the door but tragically fell before doing so.
The US State Department expressed condolences for the deaths of two US citizens involved in the incident. They are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to offer consular assistance to the families affected.
Local authorities are responsible for determining the cause of death in such cases. The State Department is in communication with the relevant authorities and will continue to provide support as needed.
Meanwhile, last year Thailand was shocked by a separate poisoning case where a woman was charged with multiple counts of premeditated murder using cyanide. The recent incident in Bangkok has once again brought attention to the dangers of poisoning and the need for thorough investigations.
