The streets of Greenwich will be flooded with multicoloured foam in a celebration of art and performance this summer.
That’s right – the Greenwich + Docklands International Festival 2022 will return to the public, ready to push the “international” boundaries.
Although it is planned for when summer will be phasing out (August 22-September 11), what a way to bid the season goodbye.
The Docklands street theatre festival will include the spectacular tidal wave “Island of Foam: Version XVIII” by Germany’s Stephanie Lüning. Rainbow dyed foam will flow through the streets, no doubt to an outpouring of excitement from the audiences that are free to interact with the bubbles.
Lüning’s installation will run on September 3 and 4.
The free, but partially-ticketed, events will also include Peter Hudson’s “Charon” 32 foot zoetrope installation. Skeletons hang rowing in formation, using pre-film animation technology, sort of like a live stop motion, will hit Canning Town from September 1-10.
Headliners and other acts will be announced closer to the time – with the opening event to be unveiled in June.
Other artists include theatre company Fevered Sleep with their audio promenade “The Sky is Filled with Thunder”, Crown_Ctrl’s dance and LED show, contemporary dancers House of Suarez with House of Oak and Iron and Cia Maduixa with their performance Migrare about female migrants searching for belonging.
