Multan Sultans secure second consecutive win in Pakistan Super League

NEW DELHI: Multan Sultans showcased a dominant display of pace bowling to clinch their second consecutive victory in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) against Islamabad United on Tuesday.

Fast bowler Mohammad Ali emerged as the star performer, claiming impressive figures of 3-19 as he utilized swing and delivered pinpoint yorkers to dismantle Islamabad's batting lineup, restricting them to a modest total of 144.

In response, Multan Sultans chased down the target of 145 with finesse, led by Reeza Hendricks' impressive knock of 58 off 46 balls. Hendricks, who had previously scored an unbeaten 79 in Multan's win over Karachi Kings, played a pivotal role in guiding his team to victory, ensuring they reached the target with five wickets in hand and one over to spare.

Islamabad United's batting woes were compounded by sloppy fielding, with missed opportunities costing them dearly. Imad Wasim's dropped catches of Hendricks and Mohammad Rizwan allowed the duo to build crucial partnerships, with Rizwan contributing 43 to the chase.

Despite a valiant effort from Salman Ali Agha (52) and Jordan Cox (41), Islamabad United faltered in the face of Multan's disciplined bowling attack. Naseem Shah, returning from a shoulder injury, made an impactful comeback by claiming two wickets in his four overs.

However, Multan's spinners, including Usama Mir (2-29) and Abbas Afridi (3-33), played crucial roles in dismantling Islamabad's middle order and tail-enders, ensuring a comprehensive victory for their team.

With this win, Multan Sultans joined Quetta Gladiators at the top of the table with four points from two victories, while Islamabad United sits with two points from two games.
