Mulleted Streaker Explains Motivation for WM Phoenix Open Foray

The WM Phoenix Open is endearingly known as golf’s biggest party, and for good reason. The fans are by and large the rowdiest (and, perhaps, most over-served) than anywhere else on the PGA Tour. But at this year’s event, one fan stood out above the rest—and now, he’s shared his story.

Sean McConnell—the 27-year-old mullet-sporting man who turned heads with his multi-hole streak during Friday’s second round—was charged by Scottsdale police with trespassing, disorderly conduct and failure to obey a lawful order from law enforcement. He did so all while wearing nothing but his underwear, with body paint on his chest that read “Mac Savage.”

While McConnell’s tour of TPC Scottsdale got him in trouble with the law, he now has no need to worry about the cost. That’s because his bail and court fees are being covered by underwear company Shinesty, who spoke with McConnell about his decision to become the main event at one of golf’s most high-profile tournaments.

“All I wanted to do was put a smile on people’s faces,” McConnell said. “After all, it is nicknamed ‘the people’s open,’ so I wanted to make sure the people had something fun to remember.”

Shinesty CEO Chris White said the company was obligated to take care of McConnell’s legal fees given the fact that he was wearing one of their products when he ran afoul of the law.

“We have to accept partial responsibility for this incident and at least cover the bail,” White said. “We’ve never seen a streaker so incredibly aerodynamic, elusive, and sexually compelling during a jaunt around the links.”

Whether or not this is McConnell’s final turn in golf’s spotlight remains to be seen. But, it’s safe to assume that Shinesty now has a new No. 1 customer.
