'Much loved father' died after HGV crashed into M6 reservation

Tributes have been paid to a 'much loved' family man who died in a crash on the M6.

Malcolm Cleaver died after crashing the HGV he was driving into the central reservation on the southbound carriageway of the motorway.

The 63-year-old dad and uncle from Rugby, Warwickshire, was pronounced dead at the scene between junction 17 and 16 of the M6, on Tuesday, January 11.

In a statement, Malcolm's family said: "It is with great sadness that Malcolm Cleaver passed away following a road traffic collision on the M6 in Cheshire.

"Malcolm was a much loved son, brother, father and uncle.

"This tragic event will leave a huge gap in our lives and we ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time."

The motorway was closed for 12 hours between junctions 18 and 16 following the incident, which happened at around 4.40pm.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and video footage following the crash and an investigation is ongoing.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Constabulary said after the incident: "At 4.41pm on Tuesday January 11 police were called to reports of a serious collision on the southbound carriageway between junction 17 to junction 16.

"Officers attended the scene and found that a white HGV had collided with the central reservation.

"Sadly the driver of the HGV, a man in his 60s, died at the scene."
