MSU Football vs. Richmond: Stream, broadcast info, players to watch, predictions for Saturday

Michigan State football looks to keep the winning ways going with another home non-conference matchup this week against FCS foe Richmond.

The Spartans opened up the 2023 season with a comfortable victory over Central Michigan, 31-7, last Friday at Spartan Stadium. Noah Kim made his first career start for the Spartans in the victory over the Chippewas.

Richmond is looking to bounce back from a season-opening loss against Morgan State. As a ranked preseason FCS team, the Spiders were heavy favorites in that matchup but were unable to get the victory last week.

Players to Watch

Here are three players to watch for Michigan State in this matchup against the Spiders:

Noah Kim (QB): Noah Kim looked shaky at first in last week’s season-opener but it was also his first career start so that could have been expected. He turned it on in the second half and ultimately finished the game with 279 passing yards and two touchdowns. I’m expecting a better start from him this week against Richmond — a team located not too far from where Kim grew up.

Nathan Carter (RB): Nathan Carter made his Michigan State debut last week, and was impressive on the ground for the Spartans. He led the team with 18 carries for 113 yards and one touchdown in the win over Central Michigan. I’m looking for him to have another big-time performance in a game where the Spartans should be able to dominate on the ground.
Malik Spencer (DB): Malik Spencer is a guy who got a lot of chatter and buzz out of fall camp, and he performed up to this standard in the opener. He finished last week’s game second on the Spartans in tackles, which included a tackle for loss. I’m intrigued to see how he comes out this week and if he can string together consecutive strong performances for the Spartans.
