Players to Watch
Here are three players to watch for Michigan State in this matchup against the Chippewas:
Noah Kim / Katin Houser (QB): Who will start for the Spartans at quarterback? That is still unknown but many believe it’ll be either Noah Kim or Katin Houser. Both would be making their first career start and I anticipate both getting some playing time regardless of who gets the start. Both of these guys will be under a microscope in this opening matchup, with fans and media looking to make declarations — good or bad — on how either of these guys play.
Nathan Carter (RB): Friday night will also be our first look at new UConn transfer running back Nathan Carter who has been considered impressive during fall camp. Carter picked up 705 yards and two touchdowns from scrimmage on 125 rushing attempts and 19 receptions last year for the Huskies and is expected to have an impact in the Spartans’ offense this fall.
Jacoby Windmon (LB): Jacoby Windmon made a name for himself last fall as a primary pass rusher — starring early in the season. However, a four-game suspension after the tunnel incident at Michigan capped his season and he’ll now transition into more of a traditional linebacker role. This season-opener should be a good opportunity for us to see how he’s progressed this offseason and indicate what we should expect from him this fall.
