MSU Basketball tops Madrid All-Stars to open three-game Spain trip

Michigan State basketball opened its trip to Spain with a thrilling victory over the Madrid All-Stars.

The Spartans led most of the game but needed strong play from point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. in the final minutes to hold off a comeback attempt from the Madrid All-Stars. The final score was 94-87.

Michigan State led most of the first half, thanks to strong play from Xavier Booker. He hit several three-point shots to lead the Spartans offensively in the opening frame, resulting in Michigan State holding a 49-40 advantage at the break.

The Madrid All-Stars would respond in the third quarter, though. The Madrid All-Stars outscored the Spartans by double-digits in the frame to take a 69-67 lead into the final quarter.

Michigan State didn’t let the Madrid All-Stars lead last for long in the fourth quarter. The Spartans quickly regained the lead and held on late for the victory.

Official stats from the game have not yet been released. Spartans Wire will update this post should any stats be provided.

Michigan State will play two more exhibition games in Spain over the next week. Next up is a matchup in Valencia on Sunday.
