It was a valiant effort from the Spartans, but in the end, Michigan State fell just short to Purdue in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal, 67-62.
For the Spartans, it was tough to overcome the top seeded Boilermakers, along with a battle with the ref crew, all game long. What the Spartans did overcome, was a 12-point second half deficit, knotting the game at 56-56 with minutes to play.
Unfortunately, a huge Fletcher Loyer three-pointer gave Purdue the lead once again, and the Spartans couldn’t overcome this final deficit.
Leading the way for MSU was Tyson Walker with 15 points, while Malik Hall added 12 points and Tre Holloman had 10 points. The Spartans finished with 29 total fouls.
The Spartans now await their fate on Selection Sunday with a potential bid to the NCAA Tournament looming.
