An MSP has commended the bravery of the sex crime victims of shamed Lanarkshire doctor, Krishna Singh.
The 72-year-old GP was convicted of 54 charges against 48 female patients on Thursday after a two-month trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
His targets included a rape victim, teenage children and pregnant women.
They were subjected to kissing, groping, inappropriate examinations and sleazy comments during appointments.
Central Scotland MSP Monica Lennon has since welcomed the disgraced doctor being brought to justice and has applauded the women who came forward to report him.
The Scottish Labour politician now hopes lessons can be learned over historical and ongoing sexual abuse cases to ensure cases are investigated correctly and to protect victims.
Ms Lennon told Lanarkshire Live : “Krishna Singh harmed and sexually assaulted women under his trusted medical care for decades.
“It is thanks to the courage of these survivors, many from Lanarkshire, that he has been brought to justice and rightly convicted for his vile sexual crimes, and I hope he is served with the toughest possible sentence.
“If he hasn't already been stripped of his MBE – awarded in 2013 in recognition for services to healthcare - then he should be, immediately.
“Other crimes may have gone unreported and it’s important that support is available for others who wish to come forward.
“Lessons must be learned about how such a dangerous man got away with this for so long.
"I will be asking the Scottish Government what lessons have been learned and what action is being taken to ensure any other historic or ongoing sexual offences within the health service are properly investigated and brought to justice.
“However, today my thoughts are with the women and I hope this verdict brings them peace.”
A massive probe was first launched against Singh in 2018 after a brave woman reported him to authorities.
During the trial he insisted the patients were wrong - and that some of the examinations were what he had been taught during medical training in India.
Singh was convicted of 54 charges against his victims at court, but denied all allegations.
The crimes mainly consisted of multiple sexual and indecent assaults.
He was found not proven on nine others charges and not guilty on a further two.
The offences mainly occurred at medical practices in North Lanarkshire, but also at a hospital accident and emergency department, a police station and during visits to patients' homes.
The charges spanned between February 1983 and May 2018.
