A Lanarkshire MSP has welcomed funding for people with Long Covid in South Lanarkshire.
The Scottish Government has announced an initial tranche of funding for projects to improve the care and support from those suffering with long lasting effects of Covid.
The £3 million investment will be given to health boards across Scotland to introduce care coordinator roles, extra resources to support a patient-centred assessment and more capacity for community rehabilitation to support people with issues affecting their day-to-day quality of life.
NHS Lanarkshire is expected to be provided with just over £320,000.
Support is already available from the NHS for long Covid, however this further additional investment will go even further to help.
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey welcomed the news.
She told Lanarkshire Live: "Although most people recover quickly from coronavirus, thousands of adults and children have experienced on-going symptoms for months, or even years, after their initial infection.
“Long Covid can have a significant impact on many areas of those affected lives – from physical and mental health, to relationships, education and employment.
“I therefore welcome this new additional funding which, on top of existing services, will better support residents from Rutherglen and Cambuslang who are living with Long Covid.”
