An MSP has asked the Scottish health secretary for an urgent meeting over the loss of GP services in Lockerbie and Moffat.
South Scotland SNP representative Emma Harper has requested talks with Humza Yousaf following Alba Medical Group’s announcement that it was withdrawing from the area when its contract expires in May next year.
Ms Harper said: “I have written to the Scottish Government’s Health Secretary to ask to meet with him to discuss what action the Scottish Government can take to support NHS Dumfries and Galloway to find a solution to the Moffat and Lockerbie practices, to ensure parity and equity of GP services in Moffat and Lockerbie.”
Almost 10,000 people use the service across both locations leading to fears for the future of the two practices.
Alba took over the operation of Lockerbie and Moffat in April after four years of them being managed by the local health board but problems persisted with many patients unsatisfied with the service.
“I want to see timely action taken to ensure my constituents have the highest possible standards of GP services.”
