A Lanarkshire MSP is backing an East Kilbride mum's calls for dedicated facilities for women who suffer miscarriages.
Labour's Monica Lennon met with Louise Caldwell this week and SNP health minister Maree Todd.
Louise had to endure the trauma of delivering her stillborn baby in a labour ward in 2019 after a 12-week scan revealed the little one she was carrying didn’t have a heartbeat.
A campaign has seen a commitment from the Scottish Government to establishing a dignified, compassionate miscarriage service tailored to the needs of women by the end of 2023.
Ms Lennon told Lanarkshire Live : "I pay tribute to Louise Caldwell for her courageous campaign and I am pleased the Scottish Government is listening.
“Dedicated services for women experiencing unexpected pregnancy complications are long overdue. The Scottish Government must now put a clear plan into action to make good on the promises made before the election.
“Louise made a big impact on the Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health and it was a productive meeting.
"The government know that we will be keeping on top of this and that Louise has my full support.
“Women have already waited too long.
"Miscarriage and baby loss will always be a difficult experience, however, we must modernise our NHS and take steps to prevent unnecessary trauma and distress.”
Following the meeting with MSPs Louise said: "It went really well, Maree Todd listened to everything I said and is completely on board with these facilities.
"I have been personally invited to a 'Round Table meeting' next month.
"The health minister is happy for me to go all the way with this not only tell my story but others stories as well if they want.
"These facilities will happen although unsure of how many hospitals within Scotland."
