MSE's Martin Lewis explains how much households must pay even if they use no energy

Martin Lewis has warned households will still have to pay staggering amounts on bills even if they use no energy.

In his latest Money Saving Expert newsletter, the consumer expert explained regulator Ofgem's price cap includes a daily standing charge. For anyone not aware, a standing charge is a fixed amount you pay for gas and electricity, regardless of how much you use.

Martin warned that even if you don't use any energy you will still be paying a staggering £273 per year. He said: "The daily standing charges you pay just for having a bill rose hugely in April, and increased a touch more this time. If you have both gas and electricity, the average price cap standing charge is £273/year before you use owt."
