There's nothing quite like a gleaming toilet, but over time its once pristine porcelain can often become tarnished and discoloured.
This is especially true if you live in a hard water area, as its high mineral content builds up as the liquid evaporates to form limescale, causing the unsightly bowl stains. It can resemble rust, or manifest as dark brown or orange colouring - not exactly the shading you want permanently marked on your lavatory.
Luckily, a group of scrubbing enthusiasts have come to the rescue once again, offering one easy solution to get your toilet sparkling again. Fans of cleaning influencer Mrs Hinch have shared their go-to tablet as it "works fantastically".
The tip was shared after a landlord took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group to seek advice after their previous tenant had left their loo looking a state.
As reported by the Mirror, they wrote: "My tenants have just moved out and besides leaving the house rather dirty, the toilet is black. Best solutions to get it back to white please?"
Some instantly recommended bleach, but others said that wasn't the most effective way to get rid of limescale, as it just lightens it, masking it rather than removing it. Instead, cleaning enthusiasts suggested using Harpic Power Plus tablets.
Someone wrote: "Harpic tablets work all the time and you don't need to scrub, just brush it off with your toilet brush after the tablets have been left to soak for some time." Another said: "Harpic toilet tablets, you only need two of them. Leave them in the bowl for around 20 to 30 minutes then brush and flush."
One Mrs Hinch fan commented: "Twenty minutes and any thick brown toilet limescale will be gone. They are amazing and the best thing for limescale in your toilet."
On Harpic's website, they claim that the product starts working "immediately" to thoroughly clean where households can't reach, "without any need to scrub."
The tablets come in packs of eight, and retail for £3 at Sainsbury's, Tesco and Ocado. As only two tablets need to be used at one time this works out as 75p per use.
Someone else recommended using white vinegar as a more "natural" method to banish limescale.
