Mrs Brown's Boys will return to BBC with new series filming this spring

Mrs Brown's Boys is to make a return to the BBC for a fourth series.

Filming is expected to get underway this spring, but it hasn't been confirmed if, like other episodes, it will take place in Glasgow.

It has been 10 years since a new series was produced and fans of the show are delighted at the news, the Daily Record reports.

Regular festive episodes have proved popular in the intervening years, and a previous attempt to record the new series in 2021 was hampered by covid.

Show creator Brendan O'Carroll, who plays family matriarch Agnes Brown, said: "This mini-series was actually planned for 2021. Having been thwarted twice, firstly by Covid-19 and then by a post covid shortage of studios, it's fantastic to, at last, have the chance to make it happen. Fasten your seatbelts and hold onto your hats."

Josh Cole, Head of Comedy, BBC Studios and Steven Canny, Executive Producer said: "There's no one quite like Mrs. Brown. An absolute force of outrageous wit and slapstick that has audiences hooked and belly laughing. It's great to be back."

Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy added: "BBC Comedy are pleased to announce that after a decade since the last full series of Mrs.Browns Boys, millions of viewers around the UK will be thrilled to hear that Brendan is bringing Agnes and the family back together for a brand-new mini-series of his award-winning show."

However, there's been a mixed reaction to the announcement on social media, with one person saying: "Ugh, Mrs Brown Boys returning. I hope it's funnier than the Christmas special ones."

Another added: "This is such good news. I was gutted it got cancelled because of the pandemic."

A third commented: "I'll give this new series a try, but it's going to take a lot to keep me hooked. Happy for the cast though."

While a fourth wrote: "Not sure what I think about this. Excited to see what it'll be like I suppose."
