Mrs Brown's Boys viewers say Christmas Day was made 'even worse' by 'catastrophic' show

BBC One viewers said they had their Christmas "ruined" after Mrs Brown's Boys aired its Christmas Day special. The audience took to social media to vent their frustrations - fuming that the show has "had it's day."

Others gathered on Twitter to complain about being "forced" to watch the show, while others savagely quipped that they were "hoping for some comedy". One viewer even brutally claimed that the show had "made their Christmas even worse".

One person wrote: "Absolutely unfunny pig swill TV." Another commented: "Worst ever episode of MrsBrownsBoys Please BBC - it’s had it’s day."

Another fumed: "Mrs Browns boys should be removed from existence." One 'fan' said: "I've never seen a worse show than Mrs Browns boys... absolutely catastrophic stuff."

Brendan O'Carroll created the Irish sitcom, which first aired in 2011, and plays the title character and protagonist. The series, which aired after the Eastenders Christmas special, follows Agnes Brown, her friends and family as they manoeuvre through life and documents their antics along the way.

However, since the show began audiences have been divided and the programme has often had unfavourable comparisons to Father Ted. Despite the often unwelcome reception, the comedy has been an unexpected success in Ireland and the UK.

It was recently confirmed that Mrs Brown's Boys will be returning in 2023 for four new episodes after the Christmas special. O'Carroll spoke to The Sun about the upcoming series and revealed that there was a rush to book venues due to Covid-19 complications.

He went on to acknowledge the success his show has had and it's recent association with the festive period. Brendan admitted that he "loves it" and "gets goosebumps" when he thinks about the fact that it has "become part of Christmas".

The comedian went on: "That's what people who come to the show say - 'Ah, it wouldn't be Christmas without Mrs Brown.' You're kinda going "Oh my God, we established that" because in my day that was Morecambe and Wise, it wasn't Christmas without Morecambe and Wise, so it's a buzz."
