Mrs Brown's Boys star slammed for alleged 'racist' remark on BBC's The One Show

Mrs Brown’s Boys star Brendan O’Carroll has been slammed for his remark about Tyler Perry’s 'colour' on BBC's The One Show.

The actor and comedian, who stars alongside American actor, director and producer Tyler in his new Netflix comedy A Madea Homecoming, was asked by host Lauren Lavern Laverne if fans are likely to see Tyler appearing in the sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys in the future.

Tyler turned to Brendan and urged: "Oh please answer that."

And Brendan replied: "He’s very expensive, and so far we haven’t had anyone of his colour in there."

The star, who plays Agnes Brown in the BBC comedy, continued:"So I don’t know if we could have him in but… I’d love that, but more importantly, I’d love to do another movie with him."

Tyler, who began laughing as Brendan made the comment, repeated 'nobody my colour' as Brendan gestured to his face again.

Tyler then laughed it off adding: "Change the world. Diversity rules. Here we go."

Viewers took to Twitter to label the comment 'racist.'

@lynnw46 tweeted: "Brendan Carol just made a racist remark on the one show and not one person called him out. Shame on you BBC #TheOneShow."

@DomusCaligari asked the channel after the BBC shared a different clip from the interview: "Hey, BBC, why aren't you showing the clip of the incredibly racist remark Brendan O'Carroll made immediately after this quote?"

@Reggie_Styles said: "Wow, that was awkward on #TheOneShow is he saying that Irish families don't welcome black people into their homes or a TV show with Irish people?"

Brendan has played loud-mouthed Irish matriarch Agnes, whose favourite pastime is meddling in the lives of her six children, since the TV show started out as a radio series in 1992.

Tyler’s new film brings his alter-ego Madea, based on his aunt and mother, out of retirement for its 12th installment.

The Manchester Evening News has approached the BBC and representatives for Brendan for comment.
