Mrs Brown's Boys live shows coming to Cardiff during 2023 tour

The cast of BBC's Mrs Brown's Boys are coming to Cardiff as they return to the stage with their live show.

Written by and starring Brendan O'Carroll as the titular character Agnes Brown, 'Mrs Brown Rides Again' is set to come to the Cardiff International Arena on September 15 and 16 this year. The new tour, which will also see the cast stop off in Edinburgh, Manchester and Sunderland among others, will see the play performed in the UK for the first time in ten years.

It follows news that the sitcom is set to return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for a new series, with filming for the four-episode run starting in the spring. The third series ended in 2013 and despite there being numerous Christmas specials since then, a fourth series had never materialised until now, with planned filming in 2021 "thwarted" during the pandemic.

The live show follows Mrs Brown, or 'Mammy' and her dysfunctional family as they "romp their way through" what seems to be her last days at home. After hearing a plot by her children to have her put into a home, Agnes decides to prove them wrong by displaying a new lease of life.

However, this is not going to be as easy as it seems as along the way she must deal with a psychiatrist trying to put her in her place, her neighbours wait for a heart bypass, and worst of all, a family secret that everyone seems to know except her.

The hit sitcom has won countless awards since its first episode in 2011, including five BAFTAs and four National Television Awards, while its festive specials often achieve record-breaking viewing figures. A film, Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie, was even released in 2014 and topped the UK and Ireland box office on its opening weekend.

Tickets for the live show go on sale on Friday, March 24 and are available to buy from Ticketmaster here.
