Mrs Brown's Boys' Eilish O'Carroll gives cryptic clue about whether TV show will return

Mrs Brown's Boys star Eilish O'Carroll has set the record straight on whether the show could be returning in the near future.

There have been whispers that the hit TV show could make a return to our screens a lot sooner than Christmas with the first proper series since 2013.

And now, Eilish - who plays Winnie - revealed that although nothing has been confirmed, it is a possibility.

Speaking on Ireland AM, she explained: "There are mumblings of another four episodes of Mrs Brown’s Boys itself but it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

"If it happens I’ll get very excited, but if it doesn’t happen I won’t be upset."

It was previously claimed that the cast were going to start filming in April but it seems like nothing is confirmed yet.

In April, The Sun said it could be delayed as the stars were honouring a number of tour dates that were previously put on hold.

Dermot O’Neill, who plays Grandad, told the Irish Sun : “If there’s filming going on, I haven’t heard about it yet.

"I can’t see it happening before the tour because I don’t see how we’d have the time.

“If we were doing a mini-series, we’d be out there rehearsing it now because it takes time to prepare.”

Mrs Brown's Boys aired a special on New Year's Day but viewers accused the show of 'ruining' the day.

The sitcom, starring Irish actor Brendan O'Carroll as the matriarch of the Brown family, aired a special but viewers were less than impressed while watching his 'Mammy' recovering from a New Year's Eve hangover.

The show's live studio audience were left in fits of giggles after Grandad's joke that a nearby murder that saw a man beaten to death with a fish was committed by "Jack the Kipper".

But it seems that people tuning in from home didn't find it quite as amusing.

One took to Twitter to fume: "2022 was going so well but Mrs Brown's Boys has just come on!"

A second penned: "@BBCOne kicking off their drama for 2022 with the thrilling The Tourist... shame they then put Mrs Brown's Boys on!"

While another wrote: "Sooner catch Happy New Year's Omicron than watch Mrs Brown's Boys!"

One went as far to suggest: "Literally the worst show ever - cancel it!"
