More than 35,000 requests were lodged for 300 audience tickets for the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas special, creator Brendan O’Carroll revealed.
He said the BBC had the passes online for just 15 minutes as the comedy returns with a full audience for the first time since Covid hit in 2020.
This year’s festive episode will see Buster try to pass off a ‘magic Christmas tree’ which he claims is visible only to a chosen few.

Agnes dismisses this as “bull****” as the tree vanishes and reappears and the mystery is only solved in the second special on New Year’s Day.
Dubliner Brendan, 67, revealed his delight at returning to pre-pandemic audience shows adding: “They were phenomenal this year.
“The BBC tell me that they had the tickets available online for 15 minutes, and there were 35,000 requests for tickets.
“They can only take 300 in the audience.
“You just go ‘My God almighty, 35,000 people already, in October, want to celebrate Christmas with Mrs Brown’.
“And that’s lovely.”
The cast and crew rehearse for 12 hours a day for three days before filming.
Brendan admitted it was a “buzz” to think the show has become a Christmas telly staple.
The comedian also revealed he considered leaving his moustache on when getting into character as Agnes, “so I’d look like my mother”.
He told the Irish Examiner: “I’d say ‘It’s ready. It’s nearly cooked. All it needs now is Mrs Brown, and an audience’.
“It really does need a live audience.”
