Mrs Brown's Boys actress Fiona O'Carroll breaks down as she opens up about marriage split

Fiona O’Carroll broke down as she opened up about her separation from her co-star husband Martin Delany on RTE’s Ultimate Hell Week.

The Mrs Brown’s Boys actress is one of the recruits taking part in the new celebrity series. In an emotional moment on the show this week, the mum of four boys opened up about how she’s coped with the breakdown of her marriage, and her reasoning for signing up to the show.

Fiona, 42, told the leaders: “I need this. Think I’m a bit lost and I’m rediscovering who I am.” Fighting back tears, she added: “I’m emotional. I actually wasn’t expecting it to be this emotional.

“I want to do it but it doesn’t stop me being scared. I don’t think I’ll ever not be scared.”

As the leaders assured her, and told her “everyone is scared”. She added: “I used to see crying as a weakness but now I don’t anymore, it’s just a release.

“I’ve learnt that in the last three years, I’m trying to go with it, since my separation.” Fiona said she hoped the show would help her feel “empowered”. She added: “I would consider myself a strong woman now. But there was a time I didn’t.”

Fiona, who is best-known as Maria, Agnes’ daughter- in-law, and Martin, who played Mrs Brown’s youngest son Trevor in the show, had been married for over 15 years before they announced their split last year. The couple first met when they were just 16, and Fiona told at the time that they “grew apart” as they both wanted different things. The pair continue to co-parent their sons while Delaney lives in Portugal.

Fiona, who is the daughter of Mrs Brown’s Boys creator and star Brendan O’Carroll, also broke down on the show over missing her child’s birthday. She said: “I’ve never missed any of my sons’ birthdays. It felt very selfish, being here and not being at home with him.”
